Thanks everyone for a great 2008-09 year. Next year all students will be introduced to guitar history as well as studying a lot of the guitarists who shaped the way it is played today. To make this more fun we are going to make it a competition between a lot of the guitar greats, as students will vote for their favourite guitarist. Who will come out on top, will it be Jimi, Django, or Floyd Muppet. Also the last of the student songs will be up shortly, so please listen and comment to encourage your fellow composers.
March 22nd, 2009
Patrick Zelinski and Overture music are proud to annouce that the Spring 2009 recital will be taking place Saturday April 25th at 7pm. Students will be performing two songs each. One song will be written by the student, while the other will be a cover.
All Saints Anglican Church in Cochrane has graciously allowed Overture to host the recital at no cost. For this reason, there will be no charge for the recital besides voluntary donations to the food bank.
Please confirm your child’s participation by the March 31 so that we have sufficient time to prepare the student for their performance.
See you all soon
Patrick

Happy New Year! We are proud to present our first workshop of 2009. With past attention on technical development, we would like to shift focus towards bringing out everyone’s creativity. David Andrew Wiebe, will cover in this workshop progressions, variations, triads, rhythm/synchopation, and heavy metal riffs. All these techniques help bring out the songwriter within. We will also be holding a songwriting competition for all students. The winning song will receive a free recording. Deadline is at the end of February, and this workshop will go hand in hand with the competition.
Date: Wednesday, January 28, 2009
Time: 6-9pm
Place: 8 Poplar Hill Drive
Price: Students $30, Adults $15
*David Andrew Wiebe is a professional guitar player who works at Music Center Canada. David has a solo album that will be available at the workshop. He currently plays guitar for Angels Breaking Silence, and has also played guitar for country artists AJ Goodwin and Jo Hikk.
